In this series, we will examine how God desires us to have breakthrough moments in life and faith. We will be amazed to learn that one of the names of God is “Breakthrough”. We love it when there is a breakthrough in medicine or technology but some of us need a breakthrough in our lives.
A breakthrough life isn’t about being told that you can be whatever you want to be. As a matter of fact that way of life can lead to anxiety, depression and worry. We think we know what life is supposed to be and when we don’t line up we are left thinking something is wrong with us. God’s design is for you and I to live life to the fullest but what does that mean when life feels broken and less vibrant? Our breakthrough will come when we see life through the lens of Jesus.

If you talk to any fitness trainer, they will talk about strengthening the core. A strong core can build strength in every other area. In the church, the core would speak to values that define how we move forward. Another way to look at values is to see them as those things that contribute to the smell of a church. The key points this message covers are: 1. People matter to God 2. Space for each other’s journey 3. Commitment to speaking love and truth 4. Strength and power through relationships 5. Resilience in making disciples of Jesus

Battle ready! No matter how you look at life and faith, we are in a battle. Not against humans but against spiritual darkness. This darkness is often disguised as something good. We live in a very difficult time of faith but as we stand strong in the place where we are we can see the power of the “good news” become resilient. Paul knows that the faith is a battle and he warns us.

Our faith is stronger as we grow our connection with others. When the body is healthy and strong there is an expression of outward love towards others. Christ is formed in us as we develop community. The enemy would love to convince you that you can do faith alone but that is a tactic to isolate you and pick you off. Strength in numbers.

David talks about a hatred for his actual physical enemies - which were also enemies of God. The NT talks about our present day enemy - wait for it....sin. And so I'm going to talk about the 's' word. I think sometimes we can get so tripped up by sin that we elevate ourselves to a position close to God (where we start to believe that we are inherently more knowledgeable, powerful, or good than we actually are) and the world reinforces this in various ways. But we are indeed in need of a Saviour! And living a life that reflects this is a continual process of searching - and submitting ourselves to God's leading.
