Our past has a way of holding us back. Even though at times it’s good to do a shoulder check to see how far we have come, we should never stare at our past. Our past is part of our story but it doesn’t have to define our future. To live right side up is to press forward to the prize that God has set before us

When you cross boarders into other lands you are asked to present your passport. You do this to let them know your citizenship. Sometimes you don’t need a passport to know where a person is from. You simply can tell by the way they live and conduct themselves. Paul’s challenge to the early Christians was to live in a way that gives their citizenship away. To live right side up is to live as a citizen of heaven.

Paul sets the reader up with a picture of what he sees for their lives. He points out that his prayer is that they overflow with knowledge and understanding of faith. That what matters most is that they live blameless and pure lives. To live right side up you need to have a clear understanding that faith impacts our entire life.

What does it mean to fear God?
We established that what we fear will control our lives. To fear God is to give him control of our lives and there is no better way to face other fears.
The Fear of God is the answer to our worries - if we trust in God, then there is nothing to be afraid of.
Psalm 111:10 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom..."
Psalm 34:4, 9 "I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fear" , "fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him like nothing."
Isaiah 41:10 "so do not fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Fear of rejection, not measuring up.
Prevents us from fulfilling our dreams.
If we learn to fear God, then we can discover the life that God intends us to live.
Psalm 27:1 "The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid?".
Psalm 56:3,4 "when I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?".
